Everyone talks about how stressful kids have it when they go back to school. They’re thrown into a new situation every year with new faces, a new schedule, a new classroom, and sometimes even a new school.

However, no one ever talks about how stressful parents have it. Think about it… you’re going from a laid-back schedule to constant running around. You have school shopping, a strict schedule to adhere to once again, and running non-stop for games and other extracurriculars. You’re doing a lot and under a great deal of stress right now with the beginnings of the school year upon us. You can take steps to reduce your stress, though. Let our chiropractor explain.

Get Outside Daily

Did you know that a vitamin D deficiency can contribute to depression and anxiety? Therefore, if you’re finding you’re too busy to get outside for a walk or play with the kids in the evenings, you may want to reconsider. Your body needs vitamin D for bone strength as well as to ward off depression and anxiety. So, don’t think just because school is here that you should forgo outdoor activities. It just means you need to try harder to fit it into your schedule.

Get Exercise

The transition from running around outdoors with the kids in the summer to becoming less active is common with parents during this time of the year. They spend a lot more time seated on the bleachers watching games and concerts. It doesn’t help that parents are notorious for putting their own needs on the back burner and sometimes skipping out on exercise to ensure their children get to do everything they want to do.

This is one time, though, when you need to make yourself a priority and make sure you’re getting out there to exercise for at least 150 minutes per week.

Exercise not only can help you feel more confident, but it also stimulates the release of endorphins – feel-good hormones that can help you fight depression and anxiety.

Make Healthy Meals a Priority

Nobody ever said you had to make home-cooked meals 365 days per year. It’s okay to order pizza every now and then to give yourself a break and your kids a treat. A majority of the time, strive to make home-cooked meals consisting of a balance of protein, whole-grain carbohydrates, fruits, and vegetables.

By making sure you eat a well-balanced diet, you can ensure your body is receiving all the nutrients it needs. Bear in mind that a deficiency in certain nutrients can lead to fatigue, depression, and anxiety. You need to treat your body to healthy foods all the time, but especially right now to make this time easier on you.

Take Time With Your Kids

Shuttling your children back and forth to school and extracurricular activities isn’t your only job as a parent. You also need to nurture your child and spend time bonding with your tot. Therefore, once your children go back to school, it’s more important than ever to schedule time to spend with them, even if it’s merely watching a movie, going for a walk, or visiting a park. You’ll mentally feel better staying connected with your children.

Get Chiropractic Care

Your body is under a lot of stress as you’re in the car more taking your child places. You’re probably doing a lot more running than you were over the summer. It doesn’t help if you have an older mattress that isn’t supporting your back and neck well.

Getting chiropractic care at the end of summer could just be what you, as a mom or dad, need to kick off the school year right. You’ll have less pain and be able to sleep better. You’ll then be awake, alert, and not tired for whatever life has in store for you. You’ll also be able to enjoy this time with your kids.
