Although chiropractors get a reputation for being back crackers, we’re much more. Our treatment goes beyond helping with back pain and can extend to reducing headaches and migraine pain and even potentially decreasing the number of migraine days you have. We’d like to take a moment to provide you with some advice you can use to ease your pain and discomfort.
Start Eating a Healthy, Well-Balanced Diet
Your diet can cause you to have headaches for a number of reasons. For one, if you’re eating processed foods, some of the ingredients have been associated with triggering headaches and migraines. One prime example is nitrites and nitrates. These ingredients are found in hot dogs and bacon to keep the meat fresh. Unfortunately, some people have a sensitivity to these ingredients and will develop headaches or migraines every time they eat them. And there are a number of other processed ingredients.
Besides artificial colors and flavorings and preservatives, it’s also possible to experience headaches or migraines if you have food sensitivity in general, such as to gluten.
A nutrient deficiency can also contribute to headaches and migraines. People who don’t receive enough vitamin B12, for instance, may experience headaches or migraines since it’s a vitamin necessary for nerve function. And that’s merely one example.
Practice Good Posture
Poor posture stresses your body in a number of ways. It can lead to back and neck pain. Since it puts a strain on the muscles in your neck, back of your head, and even jaw, it can contribute to headache pain.
If you don’t already have good posture, work on it. Ask your chiropractor for tips and exercises you can do to improve your posture. You just may be able to reduce some of your headache pain.
Drink Enough Water
Your body uses water for a number of functions. For instance, you need water to regulate your body temperature. It makes up about 90 percent of your blood plasma. Water is also necessary for joint lubrication and to keep your eyes, mouth, and nose moist, among other functions.
If you don’t drink enough water, not only will you affect the many functions in your body that require water, but you might also develop a headache. Some medical experts think dehydration causes headaches because the lack of fluid causes narrowing in your blood vessels. They narrow to try to acquire enough water.
While eight glasses of water are sufficient for most people, some people may need more or might be able to get by with drinking less. It depends on your age, weight, and activity level.
Get Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care has been known to help those who have migraines or headaches. A spinal misalignment can interfere with nervous system function, which can lead to headaches and migraines. Through a misalignment, a chiropractor can restore this nervous system function.
Tension in your shoulders and neck can lead to you having headaches or migraines. Fortunately, our practitioner can correct this through alignments.
On the other hand, if you have a nutrient deficiency, our practitioner can optimize blood flow with a spinal alignment. As the brain receives more blood, it gets more of the nutrients it needs.
Plus, during your treatment, our practitioner can provide diet and lifestyle advice to assist with your problem.
At Premier Chiropractic Center, serving Bessemer, AL, and the nearby region, our practitioner can help if you have headaches or migraines. We take an all-natural approach and target the root cause of your discomfort rather than masking the problem.
If you’re suffering from headaches, don’t hesitate to give us a call at 205-519-4024 or use our online form.
