One recommendation we have for all of our patients is to receive adequate exercise. Not only is this beneficial to your cardiovascular system, but it helps keep your musculoskeletal system in tip-top shape. With today’s busy demands, it can be difficult to find time for physical activity. However, our team at Premier Chiropractic Center, serving Bessemer, AL, and the nearby region, has a few tips to assist.

General Information

As a general rule, you should receive at least 150 minutes of moderately intense exercise each week. This recommendation is in addition to any chiropractic exercise you do in our office since therapeutic physical activity is geared toward healing and optimizing body function rather than improving the health of your cardiovascular system.

Keep in mind that even with any injury, you still should participate in at least some exercise, even if you have to modify it. And we should note that even if you can’t physically jog for a half an hour, exercise can still benefit you, even if you have to alter the plan in general.

Exercise While You Do Housework

When you’re doing dishes or dusting, turn on some music and shake it. Exercise doesn’t have to be a true cardio workout, such as doing CrossFit. It can be anything that gets your body moving, including dancing.

Increase How Much You Walk in a Day

Every time you’re walking up and down the stairs to do laundry, go to your office, etc., you’re doing exercise. You’re getting muscles to move.

Increase how much you’re moving for your daily activities by parking your vehicle further away from work. If you live near work, consider biking there every once and awhile.

Divide your laundry into more loads when you’re putting it away. Take the long way to wherever you need to go when you’re walking, and always choose to take the steps over an elevator or escalator.

Exercise in Small Increments

Far too often, people think if they don’t have an hour to dedicate to exercise each day, they don’t have time to exercise. However, this just isn’t the case. If you think about it, you need a little over 20 minutes of exercise each day, and you don’t have to workout in 20 minutes increments anyways.

You can exercise 10 minutes here and 15 minutes there whenever you get a chance.

Although you want to get some exercise each day, if you have off the weekends, you may want to spend an hour working Saturday and an hour on Sunday. Then, divide the rest of the time into a few days during the week.

Even busy people can fulfill their exercise requirements by creating a schedule that works around their lives.

Make Play Time With the Kid Count

Parents often state they no longer have time to exercise once they have kids. But, figuratively speaking, if you participate in play time, you may kill two birds with one stone — caring for your kids and caring for your body.

Rock your baby or toddler to sleep as often as possible. Have time to dance, or encourage your child to exercise to a video and you workout alongside them.

Combine Screen Time and Workout Time

Do you enjoy relaxing in the evenings with TV? Why not combine your TV time with your workout time? Watch TV while you jog on a treadmill or use an elliptical.

At Premier Chiropractic Center, we believe in the power of exercise but realize much of the problem lies within the amount of time a person has to participate in physical activity. By utilizing these tips, you can find time to fit exercise into your busy schedule.
